I'm kind of indifferent. I liked the *old* old logo, before they did the typeface with the weird serifs and made all the lions the same.

I do find it all kind of funny, tho.

I didn't care about the logo when I was a student either. But the new one - the impression it makes with me is neon lines without purpose (which I guess makes me slightly more charitable than Jos; in that I think the colouring is vintage 1988 instead of 1978).

It feels like the new logo is almost a clean, bold logo for the future; but that they managed to to make it say the opposite by scribbling on it with highlighters.

You know, I don't mind the fact that Waterloo got a new logo. You know what I do mind? That the resulting logo was the obvious pick of a panel of people who have no sense of design (or taste for that matter). It was chosen by *amateurs*.
Graphic designers go through this trouble a lot. They will create a palette of designs to choose from, and unfailingly the clients will always pick the ugliest one. Just talk to Liz about this sometime...

I mean, what is that? ARIAL FONT?! And lasers?! That won't even work small! Or in black/white! Do you even know how much it costs to print a full-colour logo? There's a reason most companies stick to one to two colours. D: That design is so uninspired, unmemorable (except for how ugly it is) and *boring* that it makes me cry. No seriously. Who chose this thing?!

So my issues with this are purely superficial. haha (I thought UW was having financial troubles, why the logo change now?)

Ah well. 9_9

I did like the "Come to Waterloo! We Has Lasers, Pew pew!" So if nothing else, this made me laugh.

I believe my favourite response to the UW Logo has been from sqrt_joy on LJ who said:

"Water, water water!"

[Laser sounds] "Pew, pew, pew!"

I liked the old logo. I don't care for the new one, but not for the same reasons that others dislike it...I just don't think it looks nice.

It's got the colouring I would expect to see in the 70s and I'm not really sure what those coloured lines are supposed to mean/represent. But most of all, it's impractical. The old logo was 3 colours - easy to brand tshirts, promotional items, etc. The new logo has so many colours that screening a shirt will cost an arm and a leg.

In the business world, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me because of the cost associated with it and the fact that people DO recognize the UW logo...

I wonder if admin ever considered having a logo contest. Did they have one? SO many talented people studying and working there...someone was bound to come up with something a little more "now" and a little more acceptable (without being musty and traditional).
