Got Lucky…

Took a chance last night, and decided to hit up the Toronto International Film Festival [TIFF] for Rush Tickets. I hear from ellie_bellie that it’s been hit and miss for the last few years, and that’s with pre-selecting tickets weeks in advance. Getting rush tickets day of for a random showing only adds to the joy that is TIFF Russian Roulette.

Based on ellie_bellie’s lacklustre experience with Universalove Friday night, I wasn’t going in with spectacular expectations. Still, I got into the rush line at around 7pm, and got into a showing of Pontypool for 8:15pm. It was the “World Premier” and the director and cast were there to answer questions afterwards.

The film itself? Fantastic! It was clever, witty, and very Canadian. The dialog was able to shift from comedy to suspense and back seamlessly and without effort. The acting was masterful, and the effects were gruesome but mildly tasteful. I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at TIFF.

I hear zaldan was also in the audience, I’d like to know what he thought. If time permits, we should hit up another film this week.

Three Weeks In…

And I’m still getting my ass handed to me. I really don’t think there’s been a day yet where I haven’t learned anything new.

Things have been a little tiring this week, but people are starting to pay attention to my work. This is both good and bad. I’ll let you decide which.

Anyways, I’ve got stuff to do today [pick up an ironing board tops my list]. But leave comments if you want to know more!

Lates…

A few days ago, I posted a comment on akuma_neko’s blog about how September feels like the beginning of the year. For the past few hours, the thought simply has not left my mind. I mean, there’s really nobody to blame but the past 18 years of my life spent in an academic setting, where September has always meant a new year!

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that we have defined too many different arbitrary starts of years be it temporal, corporate, HR, academic, or whatever! Don’t get me wrong here, I appreciate the need to recognize birthdays, anniversaries, and special dates like that, but for anything more arbitrary, I would prefer the Federal Government’s take on the Small Business tax cycle. Woudn’t life be easier if there were more more consistency on that end?

Well, that’s what I believe anyways…
