I get the DVD because I want to permanently own the movie. After I've taken it home and watched it, if it happens to have deleted scenes and bloopers I'll watch them. I have no interest in directors commentary. My brother, on the other hand, has seen all the director's commentary on all his South Park episodes. However I think its more due to him playing WoW, and having it running in the background. The "current format war" presently only affects those with gianormous TVs. I suspect extras won't impact any more than they already do.

While I do own a substantial DVD collection, I've never really gone at it for the extras. DTS sound, yes. THX sound, again, yes. But never for the extras.

I have a feeling that BluRay will end up with the "win", but only because HD-DVD has had such an awful time marketing itself, and studios are playing favorites, instead of just letting the mass market decide which format will ultimately win out (that and I don't think the HDTV market has sufficiently saturated for the whole 1080p media player, which is virtually non-rentable anyways)
